Description

🍗 Slow cooker Italian lemon chicken: tender, juicy & bursting with zesty herb-citrus flavors—effortless family dinner!
🍋 High-protein (40g/serving), hands-off cooking; perfect over pasta or veggies for complete meal!

Ingredients

– 4 breasts, about 6 ounces each Boneless skinless chicken breasts The main protein, lean and tender when slow cooked.

– 1/2 teaspoon Coarse salt Brings out the flavor in the chicken and sauce.

– 1/4 teaspoon Pepper Adds a little warmth and balance.

– 1/4 teaspoon Garlic powder Gives a mild savory note without extra chopping.

– 1/4 cup All-purpose flour Helps create a light coating and slightly thicker sauce.

– 5 tablespoons Unsalted butter, cut into slices and divided Adds richness and helps build a silky lemon sauce.

– 1 packet Italian Dressing Seasoning Mix Provides the classic herb-forward Italian flavor.

– 1/2 cup Fresh lemon juice Gives the dish its bright, fresh lemon taste.

– 3/4 cup Low-sodium chicken broth Creates the cooking liquid and keeps the sauce from becoming too sharp.

Instructions

1-First step: season and coat the chicken Start by patting the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. This helps the seasoning stick and gives you better texture. In a small bowl, mix the coarse salt, pepper, and garlic powder, then season both sides of the chicken. Sprinkle the flour over the chicken and lightly coat each piece. You only need a thin layer, so shake off any extra flour. This step helps the chicken hold onto flavor while it cooks. It also gives the sauce a nicer body later. If you are watching carbs, you can reduce the flour a little, though the sauce will be thinner.

2-Second step: add the chicken to the slow cooker Place the coated chicken breasts in the bottom of the slow cooker in a single layer if possible. If the pieces overlap a little, that is fine. The slow cooker will still cook the chicken evenly. Try not to stack them too tightly, since that can slow down cooking. If your slow cooker runs hot, a 4 to 6 quart slow cooker works well for this recipe. For smaller slow cookers, arrange the breasts carefully so the liquid can flow around them.

3-Third step: build the lemon Italian sauce In a bowl or measuring cup, whisk together the Italian Dressing Seasoning Mix, fresh lemon juice, and low-sodium chicken broth. This mixture is the heart of Slow Cooker Italian Lemon Chicken. It brings the tangy, savory flavor that makes the recipe so comforting and bright at the same time. Pour the sauce over the chicken. Then place most of the butter slices over the top. Save a little butter for later if you want a richer finish at the end. As the butter melts, it blends with the broth and lemon juice to make a smooth sauce.

4-Fourth step: slow cook until tender Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours. The chicken should reach 165°F in the thickest part. A meat thermometer is the best way to check doneness. Since chicken breasts can dry out if they overcook, start checking near the end of the time range. Do not lift the lid too often. Every time you open it, heat escapes and cooking slows down. Let the slow cooker do the work. The lemon and Italian seasoning will soak into the chicken as it cooks, making it tender and flavorful.

5-Fifth step: finish the sauce When the chicken is done, carefully remove it from the slow cooker and place it on a plate. If you want a thicker sauce, let the liquid sit for a few minutes and stir gently. The flour from the chicken helps the sauce thicken a little, and the butter gives it a soft, glossy finish. You can also spoon some of the sauce over the chicken before serving. This adds extra flavor and keeps each bite juicy. If you like a stronger citrus taste, add a small squeeze of fresh lemon juice right before serving.

6-Final step: serve and enjoy Return the chicken to the slow cooker if you want it to stay warm, or plate it right away. Spoon the lemon Italian sauce over the top and serve with mashed potatoes, rice, pasta, roasted vegetables, or even bread for soaking up the sauce. For a fresh meal, pair it with a simple salad. For a heartier dinner, serve it with a casserole-style side dish like sweet potato casserole or a vegetable side that balances the lemony sauce.

Notes

🔥 Browning chicken first builds deep flavor—don’t skip!
🍋 Use fresh lemons for brightest zing; bottled lacks punch.
⏰ Check at 4 hours to avoid dry chicken; low & slow is key.
