1Β½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
Β½ cup long grain uncooked white rice
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
ΒΎ teaspoon garlic powder
Β½ teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon sea salt
ΒΌ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
β cup water
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 (28-ounce/793 grams) can tomato sauce
Β½ cup chicken or beef stock
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
4 tablespoons salted butter
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon sea salt
Cooked pasta
Mashed potatoes or rice
Fresh flat leaf parsley or basil, minced
Instructions
1-First, in a large bowl, combine 1Β½ pounds of ground beef, 1 beaten egg, 1Β½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, Β½ cup uncooked rice, 3 minced garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, ΒΎ teaspoon garlic powder, Β½ teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon sea salt, ΒΌ teaspoon black pepper, and β cup water. Mix thoroughly and shape into about 20 golf ball-sized meatballs.
2-Next, heat 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Place the meatballs in a single layer, about 1 inch apart, and brown them evenly on all sides for about 10 minutes. Transfer them to a plate and discard excess grease.
3-Then, reduce the heat to medium and add 1 can of tomato sauce, Β½ cup chicken or beef stock, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, 4 tablespoons salted butter, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon sea salt to the skillet. Stir everything together and return the meatballs, coating them well with the sauce.
4-After that, cover the skillet, lower the heat to low, and simmer for 45-50 minutes until the rice inside is tender. The total preparation time is about 15 minutes prep and 1 hour 5 minutes cooking, serving around 6 people.
5-For dietary tweaks, use plant-based meat for vegan options or gluten-free grains as needed. Finally, serve the meatballs family-style with options like cooked pasta or mashed potatoes, garnished with fresh herbs.
Notes
π Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Meatballs can be frozen raw or cooked; freeze the sauce separately if preparing in advance.
π§ The sauce is thinner than usual marinara and can be enriched with butter, which is optional.
π Use long grain rice for even cooking as it simmers fully within the sauce. Avoid quick-cooking rice varieties.
