Classic Southern Peach Cobbler: A Fresh and Delicious Homemade Recipe

  • Total Time: 53-55 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

🍑 Savor the taste of summer with fresh, juicy peaches in this delightful Southern classic.
🧈 Effortlessly easy, this peach cobbler offers a sweet treat that makes any occasion special.

Ingredients

Fresh Peaches: 5 peaches, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 4 cups) or a 1-quart jar of canned peaches, undrained
Butter: 6 tablespoons, plus additional as needed
Sugar: 1 cup (divided)
All-Purpose Flour: 1 cup
Baking Powder: 2 teaspoons
Salt: 1/4 teaspoon
Milk: 3/4 cup
Cinnamon: Optional, for sprinkling on top
Vanilla Ice Cream: Optional, for serving

Instructions

1. For fresh peaches, combine sliced peaches with 3/4 cup sugar and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until sugar dissolves and juices release. For canned peaches, skip this step.
2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Melt butter in a 9×13 inch baking dish in the oven.
3. For the batter, mix flour, remaining sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Stir in milk until just combined.
4. Pour batter over the melted butter in the baking dish without stirring.
5. Evenly spoon peaches and juice over the batter. Do not mix.
6. Sprinkle cinnamon on top if desired.
7. Bake for about 38-40 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

📝 If using self-rising flour, omit baking powder, and adjust salt as needed.
🍑 Peeling peaches can be made easier by blanching them in boiling water for 30 seconds, then placing them in an ice water bath.
🛌 Doubling the batter can provide a thicker cobbler, and adding spices such as nutmeg can enhance the flavor.
