Description
🍚 Moro rice combines protein-rich black beans and flavorful rice into a hearty, satisfying Cuban classic.
🥓 This dish is perfect for pairing with a variety of proteins or enjoying as a wholesome stand-alone meal with vibrant spices and bacon.
Ingredients
– 1 cup of all-purpose flour
– 2 tablespoons of sugar
– 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
– 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda
– 1/4 teaspoon of salt
– 1 egg
– 1 cup of buttermilk
– 2 tablespoons of melted butter
– 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Instructions
Prepare the cake pans: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. Line the bottoms with parchment paper for easy release.
Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Combine butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Alternately add flour mixture and milk: With the mixer on low speed, add the flour mixture in three parts, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
Divide and bake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool the cakes: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely before frosting.
Notes
🫘 Soak dry beans overnight to achieve richer flavor and better texture.
🍚 Rinse rice thoroughly before cooking to prevent stickiness and improve fluffiness.
🥄 Avoid lifting the lid during simmering to cook rice evenly with steam.
