🍋 Refreshing Key Lime Trifle offers a zesty, layered dessert experience, combining tangy key lime flavors with fluffy cake and a crunchy crust.
🍰 This dessert’s blend of creamy filling, light cake, and crisp crust makes it perfect for special occasions or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Angel food cake or pound cake, cut into cubes
1 1/2 cups crushed graham crackers or finely ground granola bars
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
6 tablespoons melted butter
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream, chilled
1/2 cup key lime juice (fresh or bottled)
1 tablespoon key lime zest
Whipped cream topping, for garnish (optional)
Fresh lime slices or zest, for garnish (optional)
Optional: white chocolate chunks or whipped topping folded with lime zest

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Mix crushed graham crackers or granola bars with brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter.
2. Spread the mixture thinly on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until golden and crisp. Cool completely.
3. In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream to stiff peaks. Refrigerate until needed.
4. In another bowl, beat softened cream cheese until smooth.
5. Gradually add sweetened condensed milk, key lime juice, and key lime zest to the cream cheese, mixing until silky.
6. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture to lighten the texture.
7. Cube the angel food or pound cake.
8. In a trifle bowl, layer cake cubes, key lime cream filling, and chilled crust mixture, repeating layers until all are used.
9. Finish with a topping of whipped cream and garnish with fresh lime slices or zest.
10. Refrigerate the assembled trifle for at least 4 hours before serving to let flavors meld and dessert set.

Notes

🍈 Use bottled key lime juice when fresh limes are unavailable to keep flavor consistent.
🍧 Save leftover crust for sprinkling on ice cream or yogurt as a crunchy topping.
🍨 Assemble mini trifles in jars or glasses for individual servings that can be frozen for later enjoyment.
