Description

🍓 Create vibrant homemade strawberry simple syrup that transforms ordinary drinks into gourmet beverages with its beautiful ruby color and fresh berry flavor
🥤 Master this versatile syrup that adds natural sweetness and strawberry essence to cocktails, lemonades, iced teas, and desserts while using fresh seasonal strawberries

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped for flavor and color

1 cup granulated sugar for sweetness and preservation

1 cup water for syrup base

Instructions

1-First Step: Gather and Prep Ingredients Start with mise en place. Rinse 2 cups fresh strawberries under cool water. Hull them by removing the green tops with a paring knife or strawberry huller. Chop into small pieces, about 1/2-inch, to release juices faster. Measure 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water. This prep takes 5 minutes and prevents rushed cooking.

2-Second Step: Combine in Saucepan Add chopped strawberries, sugar, and water to a medium saucepan. Place over medium heat. Stir gently with a wooden spoon until sugar fully dissolves, about 3-5 minutes. Bubbles may form around edges, signaling the mix is warming.

3-Third Step: Simmer and Soften Bring to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat to medium-low. Cook 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Strawberries soften, break down, and release ruby juices, turning the mix fragrant and syrupy.

4-Fourth Step: Mash and Infuse Flavors Lightly mash berries with spoon or potato masher. This bursts cells for maximum juice extraction without pureeing fully. Simmer 2 more minutes to blend flavors.

5-Final Step: Strain, Cool, and Store Remove from heat. Let sit 5 minutes. Strain through fine-mesh sieve into clean jar, pressing solids gently with spoon back to squeeze out liquid. Discard pulp. Cool to room temperature, then refrigerate. Syrup thickens as it chills.

Notes

🍓 Use ripe, sweet strawberries for the best flavor – if your berries aren’t very sweet, you may need to add an extra tablespoon of sugar
🍋 Don’t skip the lemon juice – it brightens the strawberry flavor and helps preserve the syrup’s vibrant color
🥤 Let the syrup cool completely before bottling – hot syrup can create condensation which may lead to mold growth and shorten shelf life
