1 cup shredded cheddar or provolone cheese
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Β½ teaspoon garlic powder
Β½ teaspoon garlic powder (for brushing crust)
Β½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
3 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing top crust)


Instructions

1. Cook ground beef and Italian sausage in a skillet over medium to medium-high heat until fully browned (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat thoroughly and let cool slightly.
2. Preheat oven to 425Β°F (220Β°C).
3. Press one pie crust into a deep-dish pie pan (minimum 2 inches deep), letting excess dough hang over the edges. Optionally brush bottom crust lightly with olive oil.
4. Sprinkle half the mozzarella cheese evenly over the bottom crust to form a moisture barrier.
5. Layer the cooked meat evenly over the cheese. Arrange about ΒΎ cup pepperoni slices on top.
6. Pour pizza sauce evenly over the pepperoni and meat. Sprinkle Italian seasoning, Β½ teaspoon garlic powder, and red pepper flakes if using.
7. Add remaining mozzarella cheese and all cheddar/provolone cheese over the sauce. Arrange remaining pepperoni slices on top.
8. Roll out second pie crust and cover the filling. Trim excess dough leaving about Β½-inch overhang. Fold and crimp edges tightly to seal. Cut small slits on top crust to vent steam.
9. Mix melted butter with remaining Β½ teaspoon garlic powder and brush generously over top crust and edges.
10. Place pie on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until crust is golden and filling hot. Cover crust edges with foil if browning too fast.
11. Remove pie from oven and let rest 5-10 minutes before slicing to allow layers to set.
