Description

πŸ“ Enjoy soft, fruity breakfast treats bursting with fresh strawberries and a hint of lemon zest.
πŸ₯„ Made with yogurt for added moisture and tenderness, these scones are perfect for a wholesome morning start.

Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour provides structure and light texture

– 1 teaspoon baking powder acts as a leavening agent for fluffiness

– 1 teaspoon baking soda helps with rising and tenderness

– Β½ teaspoon salt balances the flavors

– ΒΌ cup granulated sugar adds sweetness and enhances browning

– zest of 1 lemon brings a bright, citrusy note

– β…“ cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes contributes flakiness and richness

– 1 cup plain yogurt adds moisture, tanginess, and protein

– 1 cup sliced strawberries offers natural sweetness and bursts of flavor

– 1 lightly beaten egg for egg wash gives a golden finish on top

– juice of 1 lemon used in the glaze for extra zest

– Β½ cup sifted powdered sugar makes the glaze smooth and sweet

Instructions

1-In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, granulated sugar, and lemon zest to mix everything evenly.

2-Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or fork until it resembles small peas, creating that perfect flaky texture.

3-Gently stir in the plain yogurt and sliced strawberries, mixing just until combined to avoid overmixing and keep the dough tender.

4-Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, form it into a ball, and pat it into a 2-inch thick square for even baking.

5-Cut the square diagonally into 8 triangular scones, then place them on the prepared baking sheet.

6-Brush the tops with the lightly beaten egg for a golden brown finish, then bake for 15-18 minutes until they’re nicely browned.

7-Transfer the scones to a wire rack to cool completely, and while they cool, whisk together the lemon juice and sifted powdered sugar to make a simple glaze.

8-Drizzle the glaze over the cooled scones for an extra touch of sweetness.

Notes

🍢 If the dough is too wet, reduce the plain yogurt to ½ cup or ¾ cup, depending on yogurt firmness.
πŸ“ Fresh strawberries are recommended over frozen to prevent excess moisture.
πŸ₯„ Avoid overmixing the dough to maintain the desired soft texture of the scones.
