Description

🍳 One Pan Cheesy Sausage Pasta Skillet is a quick and easy meal that combines creamy cheese and savory smoked sausage for a comforting one-dish dinner.
🧀 This recipe minimizes cleanup while delivering rich flavors and tender pasta, perfect for busy weeknights or family meals.

Ingredients

– 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

– 1 pound (approximately 450 grams) smoked turkey sausage sliced

– 1 cup diced onion (about 1 medium onion)

– 1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 2-3 cloves)

– 2 cups (480 ml) low sodium chicken broth

– 1 can (10 ounces or about 283 grams) diced tomatoes with or without chiles

– 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk or heavy cream

– 8 ounces (about 225 grams) dry small pasta such as rotini, penne, or farfalle

– salt and pepper to taste

– 1 cup (about 115 grams) shredded cheddar-jack cheese or a mixture of cheddar and jack cheese

– 1/3 cup sliced scallions for garnish

Instructions

1-Begin by heating the olive oil in a large sauté pan over medium-high heat, which sets the stage for building flavors quickly. This method keeps things efficient, perfect for working professionals or busy parents juggling multiple tasks.

2-First, add the sliced smoked turkey sausage and diced onion to the pan, cooking them until they’re lightly browned to lock in that savory taste. You could swap in beef or pork if you prefer a heartier option.

3-Next, stir in the minced garlic and let it cook for about 30 seconds until it’s fragrant, adding a wonderful aroma to your kitchen.

4-Then, pour in the chicken broth, undrained diced tomatoes, milk or cream, and dry pasta, seasoning with salt and pepper as you go. Bring the mixture to a boil, cover the pan, and reduce the heat to low for simmering about 15 minutes until the pasta is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.

5-Once done, turn off the heat and mix in half of the shredded cheddar-jack cheese to create that creamy texture. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top, cover for about five minutes to let it melt, and garnish with sliced scallions for a fresh finish. If you want a golden top, broil it briefly this adds a nice touch for food enthusiasts who love presentation.

Notes

🧄 Use smoked turkey sausage for a healthier option or swap with your favorite sausage variety.
🧀 To brown the cheese topping, broil for 2-3 minutes watching carefully to avoid burning.
🍅 Choose diced tomatoes with chiles for a mildly spicy kick or regular diced tomatoes for milder flavor.
